Having one of the courses that I took, body art and modification, included in my Wildcard portfolio is a good fit because it highlights my ability to explore different modes of cultural expression and what they have to say. Through the course, we talked about how body modification everywhere is such an incredibly powerful means of communication—whatever identity, status, tradition, or even personal expression is being conveyed. To me, this is an ideal example of how non-verbal communication works and how human beings utilize their bodies to send messages.
With this piece included, I can show my understanding of these complex cultural ceremonies and how they convey deeper meanings. It also adds to my portfolio even more by proving my ability to analyze and interpret different modes of communication from across the globe, something that aligns perfectly with the creative and interdisciplinary nature of my work.
