With near completion of my Communications degree from Thompson Rivers University (TRU), I reflect on how the experiences have impacted my skills and prepared me to work as a marketing management, digital marketing, brand marketing, or director of communications professional. TRU’s Institutional Learning Outcomes—Connection, Engagement, Exploration, and Local-to-Global—have shaped my growth.
Relationship has solidified my ability in effective communication and multicultural work environments. Through university group projects and being a front desk agent at Super 8, I have acquired my interpersonal, problem-solving, and adaptability skills—key attributes in marketing and communications.
Participation has fueled my passion for lifelong learning and my resilience. Whether creating university coursework, obtaining a Level One certification in sailing, or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, I tackle obstacles with a solution-focused mindset. All of these are evidence of my abilities at persevering under stress, leading, and strategizing.
Expedition has sharpened my critical thinking and creativity. My school coursework in market research, consumer psychology, and campaign strategy has equipped me with the ability to craft creative solutions, deconstruct trends, and write compelling brand stories.
Local-to-Global learning has enhanced my intercultural awareness. As an international student from Tanzania, I bring a new perspective to global marketing strategies. Exposure to multicultural groups at TRU has made me proficient in crafting inclusive and efficient content that transcends cultures.
With leadership, storytelling, strategic thinking, and digital communication as strengths, I look forward to applying these abilities in marketing and communications. TRU has prepared me for fresh challenges, and I look forward to making a positive contribution in the sector.
